Dragon Con ~ Day Four

Day Four - Monday, Sept. 3rd

Monday started out quite similar to Sunday. Woke up feeling congested and snotty. YUK! At this point I was still believing it was allergies. Got dressed and went into town. Monday, for the most part is 'clean up' day. Not very many costumes. Lots of people running in circles trying to remember everything they brought. After wandering around for about an hour or so I went to Jan & Karen's for some coffee - I had stopped at Starbuck's earlier. Eeewwwww. I am not a fan of Starbucks. Over priced dirty water. Yuppie sludge. But it was caffeine and Starbucks has the hotels in the area locked down. You can't bring any other coffee into the hotels. How's that for full of themselves?
Anyway, Hung out with Jan for a bit and then she had a panel at 11:30. So we walked over to the hotel and parted ways. About 20 minutes later I get a text "your friend Lee is here and so is RJ". I ran across two hotels through throngs of people all going in the opposite direction. Now, remember, I didn't get a picture with RJ the day before because all the people stormed the table. Down the hall and into the room, which was about 80% full at that point. Off in the corner in the front was Lee and RJ, surrounded by about 10 people. Which I kinda just forced my through. No thought involved - I just wasn't leaving without a photo. Lee looked at me over top of people and said 'what are you doing here?'
To which I replied 'I want a picture with RJ'.
'Well, I don't....'
'RJ, can I get a picture with you?'
'Of course'
'Thanks, Lee would you please?'
Lee just gave me a look....I pretended I didn't see it. :)
I did notice that everyone in the room was starring at me when I turned around. They were all smiling though. Whew....that could have been bad. I was happy and went on my way.

me and RJ - blurry as hell. hhhhmmmmmm, i wonder if
Lee did this on purpose....nah.

I went and wandered through the dealers booths and looked at all the stuff (crap) they were selling. For all the things that were there, there wasn't much of anything. After going through three different stores, all of which were huge, I bought two dragons. Which are now wrapped around my walking stick. I went to the DragonCon store only to find a really, really, really long line. People buying their tickets for next year. I decided I was not standing in that line. You would think that there would be a store in each of the hotels....I guess that makes too much sense. Off in the middle of the floor was a booth selling 'limited edition' Dragon Con Tees. So I got one from there. Another text.....'I'm outside waiting for Karen'. So off I went in search of Jan & Karen. Found Karen crossing the street, so we went searching for Jan together. Found her sitting back in one of the corners having a cigarette. We were talking about the RJ incident, Karen was facing me and kept giving me this weird look and kept pointing to the side. Well, I finally turned around and who was standing there? Roy, from season 3 of Face Off. So I pulled out my camera and started towards him. As I was coming around the guy that was standing between us I almost fell over. Standing next to Roy was Jordu. Now for those of you who don't know....this man is an amazing sculptor. Really amazing. I've always been in awe of his work. And then not too long ago he made an appearance on 'Monster Maker'. Anyway, as I got over my shock, I asked for a photo and they both agreed. Jan took our picture. Again, I was thrilled...and they both now have my business card. YAY! :)

Roy, me and Jordu. another fuzzy shot...it's a conspiracy!

two really sweet dealers in their shop

really nice steampunk corset

Jan, Karen and I parted ways for a bit...they went shopping and I went 'picture' hunting. After passing the DragonCon store a dozen times I finally gave up and got in line. To my surprise, it only took about 20 minutes. I got an official Tshirt and a lanyard and a couple of pins for the lanyard. I also got some goodies for my wife and kids.
At that point I was pretty much Conned out. I headed to the truck. My daughter had got into town on Saturday so I stopped by to see her on my way home. My wife and grand daughter were there visiting. A little reunion of sorts. I got to spend a little more time with my daughter after my wife left, it was really nice seeing her. I am glad she's back in Georgia and not so far away now. It's only an hour instead of 12 or more. It turned out to be a pretty damn good day. :)

CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR! COSTUME IDEAS ARE ALREADY FLOODING MY HEAD!

THE DRAGONCON STORE IS SELLING NEXT YEARS TICKETS FOR $65 UNTIL 9/15 THEN THEY START GOING UP. SO, IF YOU'RE INTERESTED GO HERE.

  2. Thank you so much, Ron, for taking us on this virtual, vicarious journey. Like a lot of good things, it's work and sweat as well as fun. (keep it clean, huh kids?) I really glad you survived it and had a good time. You got the Con Crud, but apparently everyone does.
