Dragon Con ~ Day One

Day One was Friday, August 31st.....

Day one started out a bit rushed. I was up a little later than I had intended the night before....so were my dogs. So we all kind of overslept just a tad. Then I had to wait for the bank to open so I could get some money that I had been saving just for Dragon Con.
Joe, who is my boss and my friend was kind enough to allow me to use his condo since he was going to be out of town. So, after the bank, I stopped to pick up the keys. All in all a good start.
Then it was off to Atlanta! I had intended to go to Joe's first and drop everything but was running later than I wanted so I went straight downtown to the Con......

My first panel was 'Hat Making'. I'm still not sure what I had in mind when I entered the room, but it was most definitely not what I got. I was happy that I got to see someone I hadn't seen in quite some time. He was running the room. His name is Lee and I met him at Travis' Haunted House when my daughter was one of their actors. Really nice guy.
When they started the panel everyone, except me, pulled out pads of paper and began writing. The two ladies that were sitting next to me said 'I was warned to bring paper from some friends who came last year'. Note to self - bring paper next time. :)
As it turned out the paper was not needed. Unfortunately, with the exception of a couple of websites, the information was nothing that I did not already know. So I left non the wiser. :(  But there were some really nice display pieces that I did get to see.....
Lee answering questions and being helpful

this dress was amazing...i somehow missed the shoes
in the photo which were equally stunning. the crown was wow!

this is the wig and head piece that go with the dress

From there I wandered around aimlessly taking in all the sites. Lots of people, lots of noise and a ton of activity. This is where my photo taking began.....

Harley Quinn and her extremely large mallet

a group (gang?) of pirates. extremely nice people

of course, a Storm Trooper

not sure of the character but a really great costume

this young lady had all the boys attention - imagine that?
it was latex or silicone, not sure. couldn't get close
enough to ask

had to take a shot of the hotel. this is looking up
from the main floor. it goes on for quite a ways

this picture doesn't do this piece justice. it was amazing
in person

the 'red skull' was in full character. cigarette, attitude and all

had to have an R2 picture

it's hard to see but his staff is fully lit and her
costume is really intricate

of course Netherworld was there!
major haunted house in Atlanta

these guys were great and really nice

Unfortunately, I was extremely stupid on Friday....I failed to eat breakfast and simply had a pretzel for lunch. I am also a heavy coffee drinker and I had less than half a cup. Between the poor eating, lack of caffeine, noise and air pollution (perfume and cologne) I wound up with a screaming migraine and left around 5pm.

That was the end of day one. Not a bad day overall.

  1. Ohh! Thank you for the photos! Wow, yes, all fun and no breakfast will give you a migraine. The floaty red and gold cloak costume is from the game 'Journey'.
    Here's the wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey_(2012_video_game)

I'm hoping to get it, maybe nearer Christmas.
